What is infrared?
Infrared is the band of light we perceive as heat. Our sun produces most of its energy output in the infrared segment of the spectrum. Infrared rays heat your body without having to heat the air in-between, through a process called conversion.
How does it benefit us?
Because infrared rays penetrate the body over 1-1/2 inches throughout conversion, there is a deep heating effect in the muscle tissues and internal organs without giving too much burden to our heart.
Our body reacts to the increased heating through the natural cooling process of perspiring. Through the perspiration process, acid and waste residue like toxins, sodium, alcohol, nicotine, cholesterol and the potentially carcinogenic heavy metals are removed from the cells (especially zinc, lead, nickel, cadmium, etc). As well as the pores of our skin opening and discharging waste products, the skin sheds any old skin cells, leaving it glowing and immaculately clean, with improved tone, elasticity, texture and color.
The deep penetrating heat also stimulates the heart to send more blood to the body cells to increase blood circulation, which improves many symptoms. There are many clinical studies that support the health benefits of infrared therapy as a method of healing.
Our infrared sauna offers LED Light Therapy as an option to enhance your sauna experience. LED Light Therapy has been shown to have positive healing and rejuvenating effects on the skin and can impact mood, depression and other conditions. You can choose the light color that best meets your needs.

Should I eat or drink before I arrive?
We recommend not eating at least 60 minutes before your sauna session starts and would encourage you to rehydrate both before and after your session. Sports drinks are highly recommended.

How Safe Is It?
Because infrared is part of the sunlight, it’s completely safe to use. Health professionals have used red infrared heat lamps for decades to treat muscle and joint problems. In hospital baby care units, incubators are often equipped with infrared heating systems to keep newborn babies warm.
Cautions and Contraindications
Infrared sauna use as creating a cure for treating any disease is neither implied or inferred. Drinking an electrolyte sports drink is strongly recommended before and after use.
Never sleep inside the sauna while it is on.
If any of the items listed below apply to you, be certain to consult with your physician before using an infrared sauna.
- Cardiovascular conditions/pacemaker
- Alcohol\alcohol abuse
- Chronic conditions/diseases associated with reduced ability to sweat or perspire
- Hemophiliacs/individuals prone to bleeding
- High\Low blood pressure
- Insensitivty to heat
- Joint injury
Here are some of the many benefits of using an Infrared Sauna.
- Lower Blood Pressure
A University of Missouri, Kansas City study found saunas to be clinically proven to lower diastolic and systolic blood pressure. Infrared sauna therapy is both safe & effective in recovering damaged blood vessels & improving heart functions, suggesting regular sessions offer a preventive role for heart disease, especially in patients with high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol. Infrared sauna therapy reduces blood pressure by dilating blood vessels and decreasing the volume of their inner lining, thus increasing circulation to promote healthy blood pressure.
- Weight Loss
If you can maintain a healthy weight, you increase your likelihood of a longer, healthier life. When it comes to infrared heat’s ability to help burn calories, only Healthmate saunas have been clinically shown to aid in weight loss. Results from a 2009 study indicated that infrared saunas are beneficial for lowering weight and waist circumference in just a 3 month period. Another study showed that 30 minute infrared sauna sessions can burn upwards of 600 calories. As the body works to cool itself in our infrared saunas, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate, causing the body to burn more calories.
Sweating is the body’s safe and natural way to heal & stay healthy…and our sauna is designed for the deepest, most detoxifying sweat. The leading detoxification principle is that illnesses can be caused by the build-up of toxic substances. Ridding the body of these toxins can help relieve symptoms, prevent illness and increase overall health & vitality. Infrared Sauna usage is one of the most effective methods of inducing a detoxifying sweat. But not all saunas are the same. The infrared heat generated by a Healthmate sauna produces sweat consisting of nearly 20% toxins versus only 3% in a traditional sauna. As such, detoxification from our sauna is up to 7 times more effective than a traditional one. This is accomplished via Healthmate’s proprietary & highly efficient technology–the only infrared heaters clinically shown to raise core body temperature by 2-3 degrees.
- Pain Relief
One of the most compelling reasons to use an infrared sauna is the natural pain relief associated with its use. Infrared heat works by penetrating joints, muscles and tissues, increasing circulation and speeding oxygen flow. For years, doctors have recommended infrared saunas because of proven relief from sports injury, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, arthritis and other chronic pain conditions. In a NASA study with infrared heat, they determined that LED technology allows for deep penetration of tissue and increased cell growth from the inside. A 2003 study showed that use of infrared heat therapy helped the production of white blood cells to alleviate inflammation and reduce swelling, two key factors in easing bodily pain.
- Improved Circulation
Using our sauna is like giving yourself a passive cardio workout…whenever you need it! Heating muscles with infrared rays produces an increase in blood flow similar to exercise. Blood flow can rise from a normal rate of 5-7 quarts per min. to as much as 13 quarts per min. Regular sauna use has been shown to stimulate blood flow, even after your sauna session is done. A cardio workout has never been so relaxing!
- Cell Health
Stay healthy with the natural preventive properties of Healthmate’s exclusive heating technology, which aids in cell health, muscle recovery and overall immunity defense. Infrared therapy stimulates the circulatory system, causing the heart to beat more vigorously and blood vessels to dilate, which help cleanse the circulatory system and more fully oxygenate the body’s cells. Better blood circulation means more toxins flow from the cellular level to the skin’s surface to improve cell health, aid in muscle recovery and strengthen the immune system. “Regardless of the extent of the injury, someone who regularly uses this type of sauna will recover faster,” explains Dr. Jeffrey Spencer, a sports medicine expert. “It doesn’t add additional stress to the body or the injury. It actually works with the body to heal.”
- Clears Cellulite
Infrared saunas help clear ugly cellulite, the gel-like lumps of fat, water and debris trapped in pockets beneath the skin. European beauty specialists routinely incorporate daily saunas in programs to reduce cellulite. And because the radiant heat of the infrared sauna warms three times as deeply as conventional saunas, it is significantly more effective at reducing cellulite.
- Skin Purification
A study published in The Journal of Cosmetic & Laser Therapy showed significant improvements in skin appearance in just 12 weeks of using infrared LED technology. Participants experienced a reduction in wrinkles & crow’s feet, as well as improved overall skin tone, including, smoothness, elasticity, clarity and firmness.
- Relaxation & Stress Relief
Infrared saunas have been designed to encourage a lifetime of use through the purest form of relaxation and stress-reduction. Cortisol–a “fight or flight” hormone produced by the body–increases with stress, raising heart rate & blood pressure and leading to the deposit of excess calories in the midsection. Scientific evidence shows that infrared therapy helps the body maintain healthy levels of cortisol. In fact, infrared saunas have been clinically shown to reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressure with regular use. Through the use of cutting-edge, soothing heating technology, they deliver the most therapeutic infrared heat per square inch (up to 99% efficient) to help you relieve stress, ease muscles and fully relax.
